Gele: An African Woman's Must Have

It will be very difficult almost impossible to find an African woman, especially a Nigerian, who hasn't tied one at some point.
Gele pronounced as Gaye-Lay is a flamboyant hair wrap that exudes glamour. It's a Yoruba word for a  female head wrap and in Igbo, it is called Ichafu. Gele is rich in texture, comes in variety of colours and patterns.
Someone who has carved a niche for himself in tying Gele is a Houston based businessman, Hakeem Oluwasegun Olaleye, popularly known as Segun 'Gele'.
He has managed to turn the gravity defying Gele to something of an art, charging $650 for every tie, and was profiled on CNN Marketplace Africa.
As this head wrap is renowned for being hard to tie, It pushes your creativity to the limit.
Gele never goes out of fashion, and it comes in different fabrics such as Damask, Brocade, and Aso- Oke.
I remember going to a market in Abuja, Nigeria, not to buy anything specifically, but to have my wrap tied by a professional.
Email me your Gele pictures, I promise to publish some. :)
