She broke the jinx. Alex Wek was a supermodel in the era when black skin was considered uncool, unfeminine and untrendy. Models representing blacks were mixed race, not that there's anything wrong with that, but this must have led some black women to have some serious colour issues, with some resorting to bleaching.
Thankfully, people are beginning to see the damages caused by those harmful creams and abandoning them.
Let's celebrate our 'blackness'.
